Contra Costa County Coronavirus/COVID-19 Pandemic Eviction Moratorium Extended Until September 30, 2020
On Tuesday, July 14, 2020, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors extended the Contra Costa County Coronavirus/COVID-19 Pandemic Eviction Moratorium until September 30, 2020. Under the Contra Costa County Coronavirus/COVID-19 Pandemic Eviction Moratorium, Contra Costa County tenants impacted by the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic may defer rent after demonstrating loss of incoming, or out-of-pocket medical expenses. The Contra Costa County Coronavirus/COVID-19 Pandemic Eviction Moratorium applies to residential and commercial tenants throughout Contra Costa County.
Under the Contra Costa County Coronavirus/COVID-19 Pandemic Eviction Moratorium, landlords may not charge a late fee for deferred rent. Tenants have until January 31, 2021 to pay any rent deferred under the Contra Costa County Coronavirus/COVID-19 Pandemic Eviction Moratorium.
The Contra Costa County Coronavirus/COVID-19 Pandemic Eviction Moratorium also includes a prohibition on all no-fault evictions, except to protect the health and safety of the owner or another tenant, or to allow a relative or owner move-in, or to perform an Ellis Act eviction.
Additionally, residential tenancies throughout Contra Costa County continue being protected from rent increases.
