The Superior Court for the County of San Mateo has suspended its unlawful detainer (eviction) action calendar between March 18 and April 7, 2020.  According to court staff, the court could extend the date, if necessary. This means that no unlawful detainer trials will be heard, no writ of possessions will be issued, and all previously issued writ of possessions are stayed.  Further, the court will not schedule any new unlawful detainer trials until after April 13, 2020. Further, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office has halted all eviction-related duties, such as processing a court order to remove tenants from their home. These measures are in response to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic, which is expected to continue through April. The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors will consider a Coronavirus/COVID-19 eviction moratorium on Tuesday.  Similarly, the Redwood City Council is moving towards adopting a Coronavirus/COVID-19 eviction moratorium, as is the City of San Mateo. These jurisdictions will join numerous other California cities that have, or will soon pass, Coronavirus/COVID-19 eviction moratoriums, including San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, San Jose, Santa Monica, Culver City, Stockton, Sacramento, San Diego, Alameda, Burbank, Pasadena, Vallejo, Inglewood, Glendale, El Monte, South Pasadena, Richmond, Emeryville, and Los Angeles.
