On Monday, January 25, 2021, the West Hollywood City Council extended its commercial eviction and portions of its residential eviction moratoria until March 31, 2021.
West Hollywood Residential Tenants Rent Deferment Repayment
West Hollywood tenants in residential buildings that deferred rent due to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic may repay according to the following schedule:
- West Hollywood tenants have until September 30, 2021 to repay all rent deferred from March 16, 2020 until September 30, 2021.
- West Hollywood tenants have fifteen days upon request from their landlord to provide a declaration of hardship. Further, West Hollywood tenants must pay 25% of all rent of rent from October 1, 2020 to January 31, 2021 on or before January 31, 2021.

West Hollywood Tenants Protected from Most Evictions Until March 31, 2021
West Hollywood tenants are protected from no-fault evictions during the Coronavirus/COVID-19 state of emergency. During the local emergency declaration, West Hollywood landlords may only evict residential tenants for:
- Nonpayment of rent unrelated to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic;
- Illegal use of the residential unit;
- Creating dangerous and unsanitary conditions; or,
- Creating an imminent and objectively verifiable threat to someone else’s health and safety in the household or at the property.
These protections apply through at least March 31, 2021.
