Los Angeles tenants affected by the novel Coronavirus may soon be temporarily immune from eviction after the Los Angeles City Council develops and considers an eviction moratorium. Although the details of the proposed Coronavirus eviction moratorium have yet to be determined, the City of Los Angeles expects to have the plan ready for its next meeting on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.
Presently, it is unclear if the proposed Los Angeles Coronavirus eviction moratorium will only apply to individuals who have contracted the diseases, those who have suffered income disruption due to COVID-19, or a more general citywide eviction moratorium.
With this announcement, Los Angeles joins a growing number of California cities taking action to protect California tenants from Coronavirus related evictions, including San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose.
Please note that Los Angeles tenants are not yet protected from evictions arising from Coronavirus or Coronavirus income disruption. This event is developing, and Astanehe Law will update accordingly.
