Oakland tenants may soon be protected from eviction due to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic. On March 27, 2020, the Oakland City Council will discuss and vote on a possible moratorium on evictions due to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic.
The proposed Oakland Coronavirus/COVID-19 eviction moratorium prohibits eviction of tenants affected by the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic. Further, it limits residential rent increases and late fees.
Should the Oakland City Council pass a moratorium, Oakland will join numerous other California cities that have Coronavirus/COVID-19 eviction moratoria, including San Francisco, Berkeley, San Jose, Santa Monica, Culver City, Stockton, Sacramento, San Diego, Alameda, Burbank, Pasadena, Vallejo, Inglewood, Glendale, El Monte, South Pasadena, Richmond, Emeryville, Ojai, Palo Alto, Clearlake, Palm Springs, Goleta, Santa Ana, San Louis Obispo County, West Sacramento, Watsonville and Los Angeles.
